What this protects against

Doses & route
Route: Injection (usually in the upper arm/deltoid for adults and older children).
Schedule:
● Pre-exposure (before any bite): 3 doses for people at higher risk (e.g., vets, frequent travelers, animal handlers).
● Post-exposure (after a bite/scratch/lick on broken skin): Start immediately. Usually a series of 4 doses (sometimes 5 depending on immune status), and may include Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) for people who were not vaccinated before.
