Gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is often referred to as “the clap.” While it is treatable with antibiotics, it is frequently asymptomatic—meaning you could have it and spread it without knowing.

Infertility: In women, untreated Gonorrhea can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), which can damage the fallopian tubes and cause infertility or ectopic pregnancy.
